If you do you get a 3.5 difference between nose and tail or a 1.75 set back from the center of the board. If you are a strong rider then you will like this. Last year it already had more camber than many of the YES boards and this year it seems like it has even more camber than before. The 2019and 2018 Jones Mountain Twin are pretty much the same ridesand the only thing really new for 2019 is the addition of a 167w for the tall big-footed rider. This is what makes this such a versatile one board quiver to us. Well its kind of centered. Bindings: Burton Cartel, Burton Genesis, Burton Diode,Flux SF, Flux DS, Flux TT, Union Factory, Union Contact Pro,Salomon Hologram, Salomon Defender. That combined with the early rise rocker in the nose gives much better float than most mountain freestyle twins that have minimal set back on board that is often closer to 1 back from the center of the board. 159: 11-12 Even the tip/tail butter easier than they use to. That makes it more aggressive all mountain if you can get a little more set back and directional. Riders:James The mountain twin is $120 more than the other two, is it worth the extra price? Switch: So this is called a Directional Volume Twin and that means its a twin on sidecut with a centered stance but the tail has less surface area than the nose. The Flex of the YES Standard is medium but on snow it feels much softer. Sizing: The 157 works for my specs. I dont worry about making it through the flats but I do worry about weaving in and out around slower skiiers and riders when Im on this board. The Jones isnt a chunder buster but its pretty good passing through a tracked out snow line without getting messy or bucking you. Jump to Latest Follow 1 - 12 of 12 Posts . All of us who rode it found us passing everyone on long flat cat tracks. If you like mellow turns it can do most radius turns. 15 front -15 back. Never Summer Hammer or Shaper Twin, dont buy some overseas junk. There was a nice smooth easy flex. Boots: Burton SLX, Burton Fiend LTD, Salomon F3.0,Burton Fiend,Burton Ion,Salomon Synapse The2014 Jones Mountain Twinis very much a continuation of the 2013 model so the 2013 and 2014 review is pretty much the same.. It starts out in the smaller sizes (149-153) as a board that is best for size 8-10s. If you know how to turn its quick. So if you want speed, go with the Frontier, and if you want to tear up a terrain park, get yourself a Mountain Twin. It still isnt going to keep up with Alt Freeride and Freeride boards like the Y, Hybrid, Optimistic or Pick Your Line but it does really well for a directional twin. As the board softens up as its ridden more jibs do get easier. Its now intermediate friendly where before it was mostly for advanced riders. Its still not fun but its morebearable. 21 front -6 back, 15 front -15 back. I actually prefered the Yes Optimistic because its a little more forgiving and Im not a standout pipe rider. Well your research is right. Speed:There is a bit of improvement when it comes to speed and the nose/tail doesnt chatter as much as it use to from 2013 and even 2014. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. I've narrowed it down to the Jones Mountain Twin, the Captia DOA, and the YES Standard. Switch: I really wasnt buying into the directional volume twin thing at first but after riding switch with a centered stance it felt almost the same. I love that it has more camber than the older Nidecker made model but over the years of riding this board Im kind of wanting a little more these days. Weight The Jones Mountin Twin is not terribly heavy but definitely more on the light side of things. So it doesnt look as much like a twin as it rides on snow. Curbside Pickup Available NOW! This season I am going to try the Yes Pick Your Line. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Its one of those boards that can wear many hats on the mountain. On Snow Feel: Not as catchy as it use to be after the transition from mostly camber to hybrid rocker. There is a lot more to this review here: https://thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/jones-mountain-twin-2011-2019-snowboard-review/https://thegoodride.com/sno. Its much easier to butter than a camber board of this flex due to the rocker at the tip and tail. Its not enough to take away from feel of the board but just enough to make it feel damp without not being dead. The Jones Mountain Twin delivers what it advertisesan easy-going, surfy, catch-free, light, and poppy board with everything needed to take on a whole mountain from top to bottom. Its got one of those types of rides that keeps its stable aggressive personality in all types of conditions and never changes on you. The performance upgrade and thrill you get from riding it will be more than worth thr cost difference. Pipe: Man this is a fun pipe board for less accomplished riders like me but also strong pipe riders as well. Still this does a good job with most small to medium rails and makes for a good board if you occasionally like to hit the jib park. Even with the added camber the board will be easy to negotiate between trees and excellent on a narrow chute that might require tight turning. The Yes Standard is updated for 2016 and has some changes that make it less friendly for less advanced riders but make it more friendly for the strong expert rider. Conditions: Really good Sierra snow with ony a few hard patches. Set Up: Guys- Centered approx 23 wide 15 front -15 back Girls- Set Back 10 mm 15 front -6 back. Jibbing: Not a jib board and I wouldnt like to do anything other than a forgiving easy box. If you get this board its meant to be ridden switch a lot so dont buy it if you are a directional rider. At size 10-11 it would turn really well and most would call it med/fast edge to edge. Itsan extended camber profile and set back the stance -20mm. Great board. Insoles: Sandsole Custom Insoles, F.I.T. The only issue here is the Slam back inserts require a full size disc binding. I can only recomand this board .. Just took my 2015 Mountain Twin out for a breaking in yesterday. Camber Option: Camrock. Turn Initiation: One of the biggest complaints with the Jones Mountain Twin is the edge to edge transitioning. After being a dedicated Custom camber fan forever I decided to delve into the new world of cam/rock. Turning/Carving: These days its not quite as exciting as it used to be but thats mainly because many boards in the industry have added boards with a little more camber and a little less rocker but its still fun. Its a big bump down in comparison to the augmented camber of the YES Ghost which has the same shape and specs except for the camber profile. I constantly spend my time trying to match the right waist width to the right boot size so Id like to see more waist widthsfor such a great board. Switch:Felt more like a twin than a directional twin when riding switch. Create an account to follow your favorite communities and start taking part in conversations. The 2013 Base is one of the fastest bases we came across and if well waxed can glide through almost any extended flat area without issue. It carves groomers pretty darn well and handles deep Japanese pow effortlessly. It makes the YES Standard one of the better all mountain boards out there for powder. So what Im saying is it butters really well and the nose/tail with that rocker flex easier than you would think on snow than when you flex it in the shop. Id say my only complaint with the Mtn Twin is the turn initiation is not that fast in tighter tree situations. This design hasnt changed since 2013 and its the same great on snow feel. Its got this kind of consistency in every condition from hard snow to powder that you can really fall in love with. I'm wondering on swaping for 2020 Yes Standard 153. I relate my decision to choosing my surfboards from a shaper who knows their stuff.. and believe me Mr Jones knows!! On Snow Feel: The extra camber adds some stability but it still doesnt feel catchy. So it still feels like a hybrid camber ride in harder snow but the spoon tech kicks in while in softer snow making it turn a little easier than before. Its easy on approach and forgiving on the landing. (We dont put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight), Here are some ideal US boot sizes for these Jones Mountain Twin sizes. Uneven Terrain: We actually like the Jones Mountain Twin better here with uneven terrain than the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin. YES Standard is not for bombing unless you really size up. The Jones Mountain Twin cant hang with the more directional Jones boards in the line but really does well for a Directional Twin with a centered stance. Jibbing: You can jib with the Standard but if thats your thing go with the Jackpot. The Jones Mountain Twin didnt out shine any of the other mostly rocker hybrid camber boards we tried but seemed to tie with them in terms of performance. Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Strata. Flex: Feels pretty medium/stiff bordering on stiff. On top of that there is early rise in the nose/tail and the mellow spoon tech helps this board roll easier into a turn in powder. Also the stance width is pretty narrow this year at a 21.5 reference stance. Gloves: Burton AK Guide Glove, Burton AK Clutch Mitt, Burton AK Clutch Glove, Burton AK Tech Leather Glove, Burton AK Tech Glove, CG Habitats Glove, CG Habitats Work Glove, Drop Tahoma Mitt, Drop Cascade Glove, Drop Web Glove, Similar Boards (but not the same): Korua Otto, Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker, Capita Mercury,YES NSB, Endeavor Pioneer, Jones Mountain Twin, Endeavor Ranger, K2 Manifest, Yes Typo, Jones Frontier, Ride Algorythm, Ride Wild Life. Gamechangers Conditions: Really good snow, some lighter left over rockies powdwer, some left over sierra powder along with hard snow slowly changing to slush over the day. The YES Standard does this better than most all-mountain boards because of this setback and the reduced volume in the tail. 159W: 10.5-11.5 Boots: Burton Fiend LTD **, Size:156 So there are lots of changes to the 2021 Jones Mountain Twin but the main take away is more pop and a board that turns a little faster. Turn Ons/Swipe Right: Stable, tracks well into jumps, fast base, turns easier in soft snow. However it still is a very easy board to get to know riding the other direction. cbp ufce authorized equipment list. Capita's Death Grip and Yes' Mid-bite are essentially polar opposites of one another. If you size this correctly for your boots it is medium to medium quick. Then I just decided I'd try the Jones MT since that was the third choice I had in mind and I didn't want to not try it on my last trip. It was also very easy to pop off natural terrain. It makes for a board that is pretty easy to butter because the rocker in the tip/tail already get you started. However, I still personally felt out of my element with the wider waist compared to the 2017 model. This is about as good as you can get for a directional twin. I'm ~77kg, ride Malavitas and 32 Binary Boas size 43. . I'm fairly experienced. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. 156: 10.-11 The camber ends at about the the last binding insertsgiving the Jones Mountain Twin a whole new feel. On Snow Feel/Skidded Turns: The Jones Mountain Twin is a super stable ride but isnt catchy. Near Excellent Edge Hold. Still the ride of the board feels a little more aggressive than its flex. 156W: 10-11 Insoles: Sandsole Custom Insoles, Footprint Insole Technology Gameghangers Low Profile On groomers it acts like a twin on edge but in powder this floats more like a directional board. Jumps: The Ghost is better for going bigger but the YES Standard is better for going small to medium while still being forgiving. Its a fun board to turn, ride fast, hit the pipe and get air with. It is only a little bit behind Underbite and full Magnetraction from Lib-Tech/Gnu. The YES Standard offers a pretty forgiving board that progressively gets wider as it goes up in size and if your boot size matches up well to it you could have a pretty solid one board quiver to do a little bit of everything on the mountain. Edge Hold: We like the mellow magnetraction that comes with the Jones Snowboards. Conditions: Hard snow in the morning going to medium/good/soft mid day. Riders:James (Size 9, 510 185-190lbs), Peter (Size 8, 511 185lbs) We try to get as many images of the YES Standard, but forgive us if they're not all there. Its not as hard to butter as you would think but you do have to put a little more strength into it. At a 21.5 wides stance width the YES Standard can give you a 4.5 difference between nose/tail, or a 2.25 set back from the center of the board. Capita Mercury 2023 - Best All Conditions Resort Board. Even I dont have issues on mellow features. Carving: Really fun to carve. Its not an ice specialist but good in the conditions most find acceptable. For us the YES Ghosts extra camber helped to make it feel a bit damper even though it has the same flex. The one thing with the Standard is you need full-sized disc bindings (not mini-disc) to get all of the directional float it can offer with its slam back inserts in powder. How This Review Happened: Weborrowed this for an extended demo and then returned it. It also made the Jones Mountain Twin and Ultra Mountain Twin feel like a fast turner and thats not a fast turning board. Approximate Weight: Feels on the light side of normal. It feels damp and shock absorbent as you pick up speed. Powder: The Jones Twin is not going to have the float that theYes Big Citydoes but it floats very well for a directional twin without a set back. The product brochure hada typo. It inspires confidence in harder conditions and acts just like a regular old school side cut in soft snow which means it doesnt grip. However if you are a strong technical pipe rider you will prefer the extra pop from the standard that will help you boost more. Its a different feel and has a little more dynamic/snappy ride than before. Jumps: It pops really well on snow for an ollie and it also can launch off kickers of any size. So you can generally go with a little bit bigger in boot size than you normally would. Jibbing: Its a little on the stiff side for jibbing but you can make it happen. Edge Hold: The Jones Mountain Twin in our opinion has just the right amount of edge hold. Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews. It doesnt quite feel like a true twin but it is super close to the point you might not notice. Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews and this is our unfiltered opinion. Speed: This board is very damp and stable at speed. When it comes to carving its really good for a board that looks like its almost a continuous rocker board. Its a shade less forgiving than the older model but still a great time. It doesnt have that snap back when its bent like many good hybrid rocker boards but its still a great butter board. 23 in wide 18 -9. So overall we love the blunt tip/tail, the addition of middle bite tech and feel its still a great board. Bindings: Union Atlas If it has the sizing range and reference stance of theYES TypoandYes Libreline then this would have been amazing for riders of all sizes but for this year its a bit more specialized. If you want a damper faster version of this board then check out the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin. Carving: We liked the improved edge hold with Middle Bite and it helps the board carve better in harder conditions. Carving was fun on the old jones but the added camber of the 2013 and 2014 Jones makes it much more fun to carve and its one of its better qualities. It's a middle of the road park board flex. If you are driving hard wall to wall and going bigger its all about the Ghost but this is great for most. The Jones Mountain Twin surprised me with how park-friendly it is. Press J to jump to the feed. $439.96 $549.95 Sale. So basically its got about as good carving ability as you can get for the amount of float you get in powder. The base has good glide too. It just helps you initiate the turn a little faster and makes it easier in messy bumps or in the trees on a powder day. It powers through a hard turn well enough but doesnt have that ultra satisfying mostly camber carve either. The base when waxed still has a great glide that holds its speed for a long ride. Nothing out of the ordinary but it can ollie rather well. Then I went to the burton process and loved it, it was easy to ride and the camber profile was great. You can really lay it out. The shape of the Jones Mountain Twin is still a directional twin, still has a longer nose than tail and still has more set back on board than most directional twins with a centered stance. The Jones Mountain Twin comes in as the cheaper of the two styles of snowboards, but not by a lot. Usually they excel in one condition but falter in another but not this ride. Also if there are any contradictions between the video review and written, go with whats said in the written review. It makes it very easy to skid a turn and its very forgiving but still has a pretty stable feel underfoot for one footing off a chair or flat basing. Powder: The set back on board 4.5 is the same as it was before but just with a more narrow stance. Set-Up: 21, 21.5 Wide. Jimbo and Zobel, with their size 11s, were fine with the turn initiation though. Id actually like to see them call this the Jones All Mountain. Pair this with a good shock absorbent binding and its going to be pretty good on the joints. The 2016 Yes Standard has a few changes to the ride. The Yes Standard is one of those boards that is aggressive harder charging ride but still doesnt quite have the consequence that camber does. The board is made from SWS in Dubai instead of GST in Austria. We were impressed with its ability to flex when you need it on the tip/tail. The rocker in the tip/tail makes it really easy. There's no particular reason for this, just would like to try another board. Id slide across a wide box but Id get bucked if I went any further than that. Ride it like a mountain freestyle twin on groomers but then set it back in powder and get some pretty good directional float if you dont feel like riding switch. The Jones Mountain Twin can skid turns too. On Snow Feel: Very aggressive and all about bombing the hill regular or switch. Nothing exceptional but above average with a good wax job. Its just another improvement on the existing ride. Picked up the 2013 158w. Powder: The -20mm setback is now identical to the now discontinued YES Big City so it will be a little short of borderline excellent and do a great job in powder. 153: 9-10 Close to Reference and Set all the way back. The YES Standard worked really well for me in a size 153 and to my surprise it has more surface area than the longer narrower model in 2017 or the 2021 Globe Traditionalist that fit me perfectly. Its only a touch weird buttering on the tail compared to the nose but most will really enjoy this board when the stance is centered on the 5 x 2 per binding inserts.
